Spring Break Designates "Home" as Destination Center

Spring Break for most high school students can either be really exciting or really boring. Most students spend their time in other states or sometimes different countries but the remainder of students whose parents either can’t afford or don’t want to go out of town find themselves dreading spring break. However, there are things that people can do to enjoy themselves during this time within the comforts of their own home. The key is being creative and being appreciative of the little things that surround you in your life.

Often teenagers seem to underestimate and not appreciate the company of friends and family. Spending time with friends and family often increases self esteem for individuals and contributes to overall happiness in a person’s life. According to the Mayo Clinic , a world renowned psychological clinic, being around friends and family “increases happiness and comfort which leads to reduced stress in someone’s life”. Therefore, teenagers should stop overlooking the love embedded within their own home and embrace it during the next spring break.

Another thing to do during spring break is catching up on all the sleep and relaxation that most teenagers are deprived of while school is in. Statistics show that sleep is most critical during teenage years, yet, about “87 percent of all American high school students are sleep deprived”. There are statistical relationships between sleep and overall happiness within a person. So, instead of complaining about boredom during spring break, students should use this time to take a nap and relax because overall you will be a much happier person while your spring break is happening.

Furthermore, students, if nothing else , should dwell in productivity. This can be in regards to cleaning, enjoying the outside, or completing the thing that you’ve been wanting to do but keeping pushing aside (everyone has one). Being productive can also mean finding and dwelling in a new hobby. Hobbies give teenagers a chance to meet new people, discover new passions, and even develop skills outside of school. Being bored can become an excuse because at all times there can be something productive to do even at home.

Spring Break can be as fun as people make it. It’s up to you to make your spring break enjoyable, and you don’t even have to visit the beach or travel around the country to enjoy it. Being at home, and appreciating the little things in your home will take you down a road that will make your spring break a great one.
