Flag Football: History In the Making!
Columbus High School’s 1st ever flag football team has made history not only through their 7-0 record but also being the first team ever in the Muscogee County School District to do so. Each game resulted in victories with the opposing team being unable to score which is rare for any sport. Flag football is new to Muscogee County and is being sponsored here by the NFL’s own Atlanta Falcons. All uniforms, equipment, etc., has been paid in full by the Atlanta Falcons’ organization.
As the season began all girls’ flag football teams had their noses wide open because of a promise to play at the Mercedes Benz stadium which would be a huge opportunity for the girls. One of the team’s primary running back’s Cydnee Redd shares “To play at the Mercedes Benz stadium would mean a lot to me. Since I was young, I have always had a love for football and everything surrounding it. To have the opportunity to share that same love with the people on my team honestly means a lot to me.”.
This week the girl’s will be playing in the playoffs for the school district. Chances of Columbus winning the whole thing are pretty high based on popular opinion from the team and coaches. “I think our chances of winning playoffs are pretty high. We have a good offense and a defense that has yet to be scored on, but we need to stay focused and play as hard as we usually do because you never know what can happen.”, says the team’s primary quarterback, punter, and punt receiver, Faith Knoelder.
The team and fellow student body at Columbus High have high hopes of winning the playoffs. The girls have been practicing and working hard each day to fulfill their hopes. The history in the making is truly remarkable.
