The Columbus High School Varsity football team won Friday’s away non-conference game against Spencer High School by a score of 20-14.
These teams are fighting for the same goal: the Championships, the holy grail for all high school teams in America. For many teams, a new season marks a new beginning, as they look to improve and continue their success and whatever team comes their way.
Through multiple lightning detection calls, wet bleachers, dying radio speakers, the Columbus High Blue Devil varsity football team, led by Coach Phil Marino, made their first win for their 2019/2020 football season at Memorial Stadium on August 23rd.
“We had a way bigger turn-out than expected, especially with all the rain,” Blue Devil fan, Austin Erickson stated.
The student section was filled with enthusiastic, raving fans as they cheered and had fun to their favorite songs on a speaker while waiting for the varsity football team to dominate over the Green Waves of Spencer High School.
“These are the moments we live for; dancing in the rain with all of our friends, waiting on our very own Blue Devil boys to take a win,” Arianna Thornton giggled.
Down, set, hut ! The Columbus High football team ended up with 79 receiving yards, 74 rushing yards, three slamming total touchdowns, 50 tackles, one sack, and two amazing interceptions.
“There’s a lot of things that could improve on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, and I look forward to a better game and win overall,” varsity player, Braylon Jackson says.
The Blue Devil Varsity football team had some “Players of the Game” that helped our team succeed at Spencer on this past Friday’s game against Spencer. Congratulations to #32, Julian Watts (overall), #21 Robert Edwards (offensive), #12 Quontez Thomas (defensive), and #14 Sean Miller (special teams).
